The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) together with the International Reading Association have created a wonderful interactive tool called Essay Map to help students map out the five paragraph essay.
It offers a blank outline that students fill out. Students can fill out one or two brief sentences that containing the main ideas of their the introduction. It has space for the three main ideas and supporting details, and a conclusion.
Students can visualize how the five paragraph is connected and the steps involved in organizing one. Students can save or print off their outline.
