Bio

Stephen Grimmer was born in Iowa and grew up in deep southern Illinois near the glacial moraine separating the Great Plains from the Mississippi Delta. He holds degrees from University of Iowa (B.S. Mathematics), Kansas City Art Institute (B.F.A. Ceramics), and University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth (MFA Artisanry, Honors Thesis), and has held positions at universities in Ohio, Illinois, and at University of Manitoba, where he is the chair of the ceramics program. Steve has presented at workshops and conferences, and held exhibitions throughout the US, and now in Canada. He is an avid cook as well as maker of functional pots and is a strong believer in the transformative powers of good pots on domestic life. When he is not teaching and making pots, he enjoys hiking, rowing the wooden boat he built, bicycling, and fishing. Steve has a loving wife, three beautiful children, and a mortgage.
