We are building this Blog to provide a central source of information/a one stop shop. With the powerful search engine, we can expand the blog to include a lot of information and yet the information can be easily retrieved. Think of this blog as Google – type in your subject in the Search field and a list of the blogs that contain your key word(s) will be listed. You then open the one you think is relevant. Alternatively, you can filter the blog by clicking on the category on the right side bar. For example, when you click “Form”, you will open a list of forms. The blog will provide a link to the specific form that you are looking for. It also provides a link to the VIP form index page where you can find all other VIP forms.

We invite you to provide us the topics, suggestions, etc. to be included in this blog. You can click on the “NO COMMENTS” at the bottom of any blogs to submit your comments, topics, suggestions, feedback … We are also planning to allow you to create the blogs on this page, making you co-owner of this blog.

Fee for Services/Honorarium Form

This is a VIP form. You use this form to pay an individual who has provided services not related to the core business of the University, nor related to work undertaken by the bargaining units. The amount must not exceed $500. You will also use this form to pay a prize/award recipient for any amount, i.e., the $500 ceiling does not apply. Where can I find the DDD email distribution list?

3 Administrators lists have been created for directing mails either by emails or snail mails using mailing labels to DDD (Deans, Directors, Department Heads):

A.1. Executive/Senior Administrators

A.2. Heads of Academic & Administrative Units

A.3. Faculty / Unit Administrators (NOTE: this list includes of A1 and A2 plus certain staff in the Central Admin Unit executing/ implementing policies on behalf of the Senior Administrators. Therefore if you are selecting this list, do not select A.1 and A.2. Otherwise the staff concern will be receiving duplicate or triplicate mails)

Am I eligible for vacation days

Professor Emeritus/Emerita – how to nominate?

The honorary title of Professor Emeritus/Emerita may be conferred after retirement on members of the faculty of the University who have held the rank of Professor. Individuals nominated for the title must have rendered distinguished service to the University through their teaching, research, and scholarship. What is a Nil appointment?

A nil appointment refers to a nil academic appointment with “nil” salary (meaning no salary). Types of positions include professor, associate professor, assistant professor, lecturer, instructor, etc. There is an established process for appointing individuals to such positions. NIL SALARIED ACADEMIC APPOINTMENTS – FORMS AND PROCESSES

Principal Subject Taught – what is it?

This is a piece of information the University collects in order to report to Statistics Canada. It refers to broad subject field/area a staff member is engaged in when hired into a full time academic position for the first time (see explanation below). When you process an Academic Appointment Form, you are required to include this information under Section B.5. You should select from a list of the subjects posted on the Documentation page of the HRIS/VIP form site.

Full time academic staff in this context refer to faculty members with full time appointment for a duration of 12 months or more. They may be Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Lecturers, Senior Instructors, Instructor I and Instructor II within a bargaining unit or excluded from the bargaining units.

“For the first time” means that the staff member may be a new employee, or he/she was previously a part-time academic, or a sessional academic appointed to a full time academic position.

You are not required to provide such information for Visiting Academic or Research Academic.
