PHISHING EMAIL WARNING

Information Services and Technology have received reports of a targeted phishing attack that contains a link to a convincing, but fake, UofM Exchange/Outlook Webmail login screen.

Please be very cautious with all account and financial related email. IST will never ask users to visit a web link in this manner, especially when it’s related to system accounts.

It is very simple for a “phishing kit” to recreate any login page for an organization, even our own Outlook Webmail login screen. In this latest email, an exact replica of our login page was copied to a website hosted in Russia. Clicking the “RESOLVE” link goes to a the fake page. Entering your credentials will give up your userid and password to someone else.

If you receive this email, simply delete the message.

Attention Exchange Users – Update regarding mobile device locking policy

Attention Exchange Users – Update regarding mobile device locking policy

The University decided at the April 25th 2012 Rose Steering Committee meeting, to set the automatic lock out option for all smart phones and mobile devices to 15 minutes. This includes Blackberries, iPhones, Android and other Active Sync devices.

This means that, after 15 minutes of inactivity, your device will lock and you will be required to enter a 4 digit code to unlock it. This is an important security feature we have now standardized across all mobile devices. It will help to prevent the loss of confidential or private data due to the loss or theft of these devices. This is critical in today’s IT environment where smart phones and tablet devices are widely used and can contain large amounts of data. It is an important measure to protect the University’s data and reputation.

This change will go into effect at 16:00 Friday, April 27. Previously only Blackberry devices were restricted to 15 minutes before automatically locking.

Please contact your departmental computer representative or the Help and Solution Center with issues or concerns.

Thank you
