On January 4th, 2018, multiple vendors and media outlets began extensive reporting on a security vulnerability in the main chip, or CPU, in most modern computers around the world.
The vulnerabilities named Meltdown and Spectre are hardware flaws that could allow a malicious program to steal data that is being processed in computer memory.
What is the University of Manitoba doing about it?
University of Manitoba owned desktops and servers are being patched. We are also working closely with our vendors to test and apply patches as they are made available.
