F.A.Q

What version of Android do we support?

4.x or higher

When will we have a Blackberry version?

No plans for one at this time.

Will we have a Windows version?

No.

I can’t login to Courses, what ID do I use?

Use your UMnetID.

You must be an active student in order to login.

I am on Android and when I launch the app it crashes.

Here are some things you can do to trouble shoot this before calling Support.

  • make sure you have Google Play Services installed and enabled. The app requires this in order to work properly. Its very rare for this to NOT be installed however.
  • make sure you have the latest version of the app.
  • Call support 474-8600

I can’t login to the app I have not upgraded to the new 5.x version.

Versions of the app pre 5.x use an old method of authentication that is no longer supported. The server used to authenticate users has been retired. Please upgrade the app to the latest version. The features for students in the new version are far superior to what we had in the older versions of the app anyway so go upgrade.

I have to log in to all the app features like UMLearn, Courses, email , can’t you build the app so that I only need to log in once?

UMLearn, Student email and Courses all have different login mechanisms. UMLearn and Student email are mobile websites with their own login systems that are very different then Courses.

We are looking at ways that we can architect “single sign on” without causing unnecessary load on our mobile server and other systems on campus.

Aside from the architectural challenges there are other security concerns and privacy concerns that must be taken into consideration.

Suffice it to say this is something we are looking into.

Why can’t I stay logged in for longer, or forever even?

Due to security and privacy concerns we are restricted to only allowing students to remain logged in for up to 1 hour per session.
