Happy Holidays!

December 16, 2010 at 5:14 pm

During this festive season, it’s important to take time to celebrate the holidays with family and friends…and also to remember those less fortunate than ourselves, members of the inner-city community in which our Faculty resides, and our Canadian Armed Forces serving around the world.

Across campus, faculty, staff and students are doing their part to spread the cheer. The Dean’s Office has spearheaded a drive for the Christmas Cheer Board with many staff members volunteering their lunch hours to collect donations; students involved in the WISH Clinic are conducting a toy/food drive for their Point Douglas community members; Medical Residents are in the midst of a food drive for Winnipeg Harvest organized by PARIM; External Relations on Bannatyne has put together a Christmas hamper for a family in the Bannatyne neighbourhood; and many other departments and units are undertaking their own acts of kindness in the holiday spirit. Thank you to all for your generosity.

I know it has been a very busy year. I want to take this opportunity to thank all faculty and staff members for their hard work on behalf of the Faculty of Medicine during 2010. Your commitment to the University of Manitoba has ensured another successful and productive year for the Faculty of Medicine. We can all take pride in the many accomplishments that have occurred across the Faculty and the milestones we have reached in the last year. Your efforts are appreciated and acknowledged.

I also want to thank our students and residents for welcoming me in to their worlds as the new Dean of Medicine. It has been an exciting six months meeting many of them, and I look forward to getting to know more of our students.

I hope to see you all at our Holiday Open House on Friday, Dec. 17 from 2 – 4 pm in Brodie Centre Atrium.
I wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday season and all the best in the New Year!

What is your holiday message to the Faculty during the holiday season?
