WCBS 2019: September 27-28, Salt Lake City, UT

Please join us this September in Utah for the 2019 meeting of the Western Conference on British Studies. The WCBS last convened in the “Industry” state back in 1990 at Snowbird. Just 29 years later, we return to Utah where we will meet in Salt Lake City. Registration for our 2019 WCBS meeting in Salt Lake will appear here soon.  This year’s keynote speaker is Professor Durba Ghosh, Cornell University.

New for 2019: the conference will feature a poster session for undergraduate students. Please contact the program co-chairs for more information on this session.

Our conference hotel is the Sheraton Salt Lake City. The conference rates are as follows for single or double occupancy:

  Traditional room: $149/night (+12.6% tax)

  Deluxe room: $174/night (+12.6% tax)

  Sheraton Club Level Room: $179/night (+12.6% tax)

  Suite: $224/night (+12.6% tax)

These rates are available from Thursday, September 26 through Sunday September 29.  The conference sessions will run on Friday September 27, Saturday September 28 and possibly the morning of Sunday September 29. Please mention the WCBS when making your hotel reservations. Note we have a room target of 120 nights to meet to avoid a financial penalty, so please book your accommodations with the conference hotel. Also be advised that the cancellation policy is 7 days prior to arrival to avoid a charge equal to the first night.

NOTE: Hotel conference rates are available only on bookings made by AUGUST 27, 2019.

The WCBS Program Committee, co-chaired by Susan Grayzel and Joseph Ward of Utah State University, is pulling together a meeting that promises to be both interdisciplinary and wide-ranging in its temporal span. Scholars of Britain, the British Atlantic World, and the British Empire broadly defined are invited to participate.
